In Southern Hokkaido, national parks and nature are centered upon the volcanoes. Life here has learned to thrive alongside the eruptions which have occurred throughout history. Our journey begins by telling the story of Hakodate Port, the birthplace of Western agriculture in Hokkaido. Hakodate Port was chosen as the first trading port to the world after long isolation. It was the interaction between traders and the local people and nature of Hokkaido that lead to the birth of western culture in the region. Throughout the film, the viewer will journey on adventures throughout Southern Hokkaido and throughout we will weave in the stories of agriculture and farming from land to sea.
