Vancouver, Canada-based Mama Tembo Tours is owned and operated by Leslie Nevison. It grew out of 30 years of independent travel and 20 years of living overseas, the last ten of which have been on the African continent – in Tanzania, the Republic of Congo and Zambia. Leslie currently splits her time between Lusaka, Zambia and Vancouver.
MTT customizes private niche safaris for individuals and small groups, bringing to each an insiders knowledge of the countries in which Leslie has resided. Each tour has been tried and tested many times by Leslie herself.
MTT currently offers safaris to Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia and Central Africa. Leslie joins only a handful of operators who can provide travel to the Republic of Congo’s Nouabale-Ndoki National Park and the Central African Republic’s Dzanga-Ndoki National Park. These Congo Basin parks are among Africas newest and most adventurous wildlife experiences. Only a few hundred visitors a year make it to these parks to see the worlds only two families of habituated Western lowland gorillas and some of Central Africa’s greatest concentrations of Forest elephants.
MTTs safaris are ideal for active travelers who seek to experience Africa in context. This is best achieved through a combination of wildlife viewing, cultural encounters, and explorations on foot. Leslie encourages a diverse mix of accommodations too – camping included - as a way to strike the right balance in a safari itinerary.
Leslie gives informed and honest advice; provides one-on-one support from the early days of safari selection, through the booking process, to departure day for Africa, to the day clients return home. It is rare that anyone returns home disappointed with their safari, but they might not be aware of what they didnt see, how much better it could have been. MTT wants to ensure that guests are aware of every option for their African adventure of a lifetime, no matter how they define that adventure.
