Posted: April 16, 2014ATOAI, The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India just concluded a path breaking convention set up in the natural and bio diverse area of Uttarakhand along the banks of the holiest river in the World, The Ganga.
The Convention brought together more than 300 operators and professionals from India and Nepal to gathered under a tent to discuss the status and future for adventure and active travel in India.
As the president of the Association I took back a lot of learning from the last ATTA summit in Namibia and tried to apply the same to our convention. The result was an awe-inspiring location with unique solutions for accommodation in camps on pristine beaches along the Ganga river.
National media and local governments praised the convention and appreciated the new benchmark we set for outdoor conferencing in India.
The sessions offered touched on similar business models for adventure travel in Nepal, understanding the need for capacity building at a mass level, raising the bar on safety and understanding the value of keeping the natural environment clean and pristine.
Our partners in the cause were Waste Warriors who ensured that not even a speck of garbage got left behind. The One Bottle Policy ensured that every delegate got just one plastic bottle which had to be refilled at leisure. The result was a completely environment friendly and carbon neutral convention.
