As part of all its trekking, hiking and camping activities, Andean Adventures Peru is fully committed to protecting the natural world.

As highly experienced trekking outfitters and operators, at Andean Adventures Peru we take every precaution to ensure that our hiking, trekking and camping services produce as little impact as possible on the environment, by implementing best practices on all our routes, including the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

On every hike and trek we organize, Andean Adventures Peru manages garbage and waste disposal effectively and responsibly. One of the keys to effective management of garbage during any hike or trek is good planning, and this begins with sustainable food preparation. We source all the produce cooked during our hiking and trekking itineraries locally, cutting down on our carbon footprint and benefiting the local economy in Cusco, while giving our guests the opportunity to try local foods.

Daily menus are carefully planned in accordance with group size and individual dietary requirements, in order to cut down on waste. And, of course, we use reusable packaging wherever possible, rather than single use plastics.

During our hiking, trekking and camping itineraries, at each campsite we clear away and collect any garbage left by other travelers who have passed through the same route, and we add this waste to the garbage we pack out for responsible disposal. Every item we pack out for correct waste disposal is carried in red, green, white or black bags (for general, organic, recyclable and human waste in the form of toilet paper).

At our campsites, all the cleaning products we use are fully biodegradable, including the soap used for personal hygiene. And at night we use solar powered lighting, rather than battery-powered devices or campfires.

And, of course, every time our groups leave a campsite for their next day’s trekking or hiking, our staff take the time needed to properly clean the area we have used, removing every sign that we were ever there, aside from our footprints.
