http://freedombikerental.com/ Here is the third episode of our 10-episode series chronicling our 10-day "High Andes, Deep Amazon" Dual-Sport Motorcycle Adventure.
Day 3 began in the high-altitude "alpine" village of Salinas de Guaranda. Salinas is famous for its rags-to-riches history where local farmers learned to make cheese from their milk. Instead of a small pittance for their milk, they created high value Swiss cheeses instead. No more middlemen - and the town prospered. They then did the same with the lambswool and alpaca wool and created their own mill.
We toured this small town before heading out on the bikes through the Chimborazo National Wildlife Refuge and to the Eastern Slopes in the town of Baños, Tungarahua.
