U.S. Bicycle Route System

About Us

The organization, Adventure Cycling Association, is a non-profit but operates many for-profit programs to help support our non-profit mission to inspire and empower people to travel by bicycle. their advocacy work involves creating better bike travel conditions by working with state and local transportation agencies and other non-profits and/or volunteers to designate roads and trails to be part of an official bicycle route network, called the U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS). This includes designating their own mapped network of bike routes called the Adventure Cycling Route Network.

They also work with National Parks and have an MOU to work with park units on bicycle tourism, safety and USBRS. They provide best practices (no turn-away policies & hiker-biker site) information to state parks and encourage them to provide better services. They work with state and local non-profits to protect bike routes, aid bicycle-related legislation, and support funding at the federal level for bicycle infrastructure, education, and safety.
