Guairu Festival is the transliteration in Qiang language. It is an important festival for the Qiang people in Lixian County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Western Sichuan to worship the gods of nature and pray for auspiciousness and safety in the coming year. The Guairu Festival is held on the second day of the second lunar month every year.
Under the leadership of Shibi, the people beat sheepskin drums, burned cedar branches, wax and paper money, proposed a toast, slaughtered cattle and goats and sacrificed to deities. They worship the deities of all things in nature to pray good weather for the crops and a bumper grain harvest in the coming year. They also pray that the deities come to the world to eliminate pests, and pray for the God of Heaven, the God of Mountains and other deities to bless all lives and all peace in the stockaded village; everyone stand in front of the sacrificial tower and promise to respect the old, love the young, harmonize neighborhoods, farm and weave hard, and not to steal or rob in the coming year.
