There are two reasons to visit the municipal market of Heredia.

First of all, it is an institution of the country, since it was founded in 1889.

In addition, it is not a tourist attraction, but the place where hundreds of Ticos arrive daily to buy good products at competitive prices. You can find every kind of stores and bazaars: supplies, jewelry, beauty salons and barber shops, products for pets, meat and seafood, fruits and vegetables, grains, cheese and sausages, hardware stores, pharmacies, plants, and much more.

We like to wander around the stalls to discover the local street food or choose the colorful tropical fruit that we will eat next.

After the market experience, Doña Marta will open the doors of her house to meet us and spend some time together.

Our new friend will teach us how to prepare some typical dishes, such as gallo pinto, tortillas palmeadas, prestiños, fresco de cás ... Obviously the teacher and the pupils will share lunch!

At the end of the visit, we will also taste the tropical fruit purchased before and the characteristic chorreado coffee.
