Bicycle Adventures Celebrates 30 Years With Tours Priced at $1984 Plus 16 New Tours And Launch of Lewis & Clark Epic Journey

Bicycle Adventures celebrates 30 years in 2014 with both new and time-tested tours, some priced at $1,984 to honor the year the company was launched. It is also introducing the first of a multi-year Lewis & Clark legacy journey – by bicycle -- as well as six new trips including a five-borough tour of New York and a crowd-pleasing Whistler Gran Fondo.

This family-owned and operated bicycle touring company will in 2014 offer 18 different tours that are priced under $2,500, and more departures than at any time in its 30-year history.

What does a 1984 price tag purchase? One example is four days and three nights traversing pine-and sage-imbued Eastern Oregon for $1,984 on the 1984 – Bend Breakaway.

A sampling of 16 new tours include several priced at $1,984: 1984 – Portland Pedaler; 1984 - Idaho Lakes & Rivers, 1984 - Death Valley National Park and 1984 - Three Lakes Triathlon Tour. Existing tours, repriced for 2014 include these popular classics:1984 – Zion 4 Day Bike Tour, 1984 - San Juan Islands 4 Day Tour, 1984 – Seattle Sampler and 1984 – Glacier National Park.

Among new-for-2014 trips is Moab & Arches Classic with road riding, mountain biking, hiking and either a jet boat ride or river rafting on the Colorado River. All equipment is supplied. The tour starts and finishes in Moab, UT. Guests lodge at the comfortable Canyonlands Inn.

The inspiration for the new Lewis & Clark adventure, covering an estimated 2,900 miles from start to finish and programmed to span three years (two new sections offered annually), came from alumni guests who kept asking for a truly epic ride.  Lewis & Clark 1 introduces the 1804 Expedition (also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition) which became the first official American delegation to explore west across the Continental Divide all the way to the Pacific Coast. Bicycle Adventures' epic Lewis & Clark series will follow the same routes, but in much greater comfort, averaging 60 miles per day. Guests will cycle on now-paved roads and over bridges where once the explorers trod and paddled.

In 2014, the first tour is a week-long segment from St. Louis,MO’s iconic Gateway Arch to Lewis & Clark's meeting point with Otoe and Missouri Native Americans in Council Bluffs, IA. As the first in a series of six tours, this sets the stage for an epic week-by-week journey across the western half of the country. No flintlock rifle required. It is priced at $3,445 per person, double and departs August 17, 2014.

Lewis & Clark 2: Is the next segment of the Lewis & Clark journey following the broad Missouri River westward. Guests cycle beside the rolling Loess Hills and through wide-open plains where countless herds of buffalo once roamed, peruse Civil War-era relics oddly preserved from a sunken ship, hear tales of spirit mounds and Native Americans both friendly and fierce. The week ends in Pierre,SD’s capital city. Priced at $2,945 the six day trip departs August 24, 2014.

Two new stages will be introduced each year, aligned so that guests will be able to ride them back-to-back. In 2015, two more will be added totaling four segments that will be available with back-to-back dates, and by 2016 all six stages of the trip will be on the calendar in a back-to-back format for anyone who would like to do the entire six-week series uninterrupted.
