Discover Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands with acclaimed author Tim Flannery

Bestselling author, scientist and explorer Professor Tim Flannery will be joining this year’s Melanesia Discoverer expedition through the remote islands of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Described by Sir David Attenborough as being 'in the league of the world's all-time great explorers,' Tim was awarded Australian of the Year in 2007 and is one of Australia’s leading science writers and climate change activists.

Author of bestselling The Future Eaters as well as thirty other books including Here on Earth and The Weather Makers, Tim has a knack for communicating scientific theory and environmental issues in an accessible way.

He has held various academic  positions including as the Director of the South Australian Museum. In his work as a mammalogist and palaeontologist he discovered a number of previously unknown species. His field work in Papua New Guinea has provided inspiration for a number of his books and he is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for this remarkable region with you.

Tim has presented a number of television programmes and his informal and educational style will ensure a packed lecture room aboard the Spirit of Enderby. In addition, expeditioners will join him on landings where he will interpret the natural world around us and revisit some of his favourite islands of Melanesia.
