Because of its good waves and calm beaches, Ensenada has become an attractive city for surfers from all over the world, who have given it the name of “the birthplace of surfing in Mexico” because it has an extensive coastline towards the Pacific Ocean.

If you are looking for adventure and taking your first steps on a surfboard, the best months to visit the beaches of Baja California are the winter months; during this season, you will be able to enjoy the highest waves, and of course, you will have a greater opportunity to enjoy your participation in this sport.

If you are not yet an experienced surfer, visit the Todos Santos islands, two islands perfect for taking your first class, as there are bigger waves there than anywhere else along Baja California, and the best news is that they are like this all year round! Be sure to also enjoy one of the many surfing contests being held here, with the participation of experts in the sport.

Some 29 miles to the south of Ensenada, beyond the Santo Tomas wine valley, lies Punta San Jose, a strategic plan to enjoy pure adrenaline on your surfboard; its waves come from the south or the west, when the prevailing wind is over the ocean. Because of the fact that this place is little known, it is advisable to bring food and drinking water, as there are no stores nearby.

59 miles from the border with the United States, lie the beaches of San Miguel, perfect for those who are looking to inject a little adrenaline when then get up on their board. Waves are powerful and fast. Rent a tent and enjoy a sunset on the beach while you enjoy Baja California’s unique beauty.
