Intrepid Travel Launches 2016 Arctic Programme with North Pole Ice Camp experience

Intrepid Travel has launched its 2016 Arctic season with four brand-new itineraries that offer unique and rare opportunities to see some of the most seldom visited destinations on Earth, including an Ice Camp at 89° north and Eurasia’s northernmost archipelago.

North Pole Express: Barneo Ice Camp

A five day expedition that spends two nights at 89° north at Barneo Ice Camp, this is one of the most unique North Pole experiences on offer. Constructed each year to be a functioning Russian science and logistics station, Barneo Ice Camp is incredibly remote. After landing on the frozen runway from Longyearbyen in Spitsbergen, travellers will explore the Ice Camp by air via helicopter flights as well as on land and will meet resident scientists, pilots, mechanics, engineers and explorers.

Arctic Archipelagos: Spitsbergen and Franz Josef Land

The islands have no native inhabitants and are only home to walruses, polar bears, seals, arctic foxes and beluga whales, as well as rich birdlife. This 13 day voyage is a rare opportunity to see an incredibly isolated part of the world.
