South Africa's Orange River Gorge - multi day wilderness rafting - desert rafting at its best!

South Africa is best known for its wildlife safaris, interesting culture, gorgeous beaches, shark cage diving and Cape Town. What most international visitors don't realise is that there is a huge array of other adventure activities on offer and in this post, we feature a trip that many South Africans agree was their 'best holiday ever' - high praise when you live in a country like South Africa. The Orange River forms the boundary between South Africa and Namibia and the Orange Gorge section lies more or less equidistant from both Cape Town and Johannesburg. If time is an issue, it's a short flight from either centre but, if you have a little longer, we recommend driving. You'll see a lot more of the country and we can design an itinerary that includes some stops along the way that will take you well off the beaten path and into the real South Africa. The trip itself is a 3 or 4 day self supported wilderness rafting trip - you'll be looked after by our professional guides who will take care of all logistics and safety on river. They will set up camp each afternoon and provide you with memorable meals, served under the desert night sky. Days are spent paddling fun rapids, swimming and just relaxing and reconnecting. Highlights include spectacular scenery with views of Ritchie Falls, the river's second highest waterfall, the Orange Gorge itself and Big Bunny rapid, a fun class 3 to 3+ rapid (which is easily portaged for those not so keen). This trip is a complete break from civilization and you will leave refreshed and restored. It's suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness over the age of 8 and Gravity is confident that this trip will be a highlight of any visit to South Africa.
