The travel magazine’s ninth annual selection will be published in the May 2015 issue

Tofino Expeditions’ new, exclusive Amazon Kayaking tour was just selected as one of National Geographic Traveler’s 2015 “50 Tours of a Lifetime”. Tofino Expeditions is a veteran adventure travel company offering worldwide kayaking tours to adventure-seekers of all ability levels. The ninth annual list of tours will be featured in the print, online and tablet versions of the May 2015 issue.

"Our Amazon Kayaking trip combines a true spirit if adventure and exploration with world class luxury accommodations," explained Grant Thompson, owner of Tofino Expeditions. "We are very pleased National Geographic Traveler chose to include a Tofino trip for the second year in a row."

National Geographic Traveler’s selection process was highly competitive and the editorial team worked long and hard to find 2015’s most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours.

“This year marks 10 years of our editors selecting the world’s best guided tours,” said Norie Quintos, acting editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler. “In that time, the types of immersive and experiential trips have only multiplied; tours are going farther and deeper than ever before. The trips and operators we selected are a model for the rest of the travel industry: They open the world to travelers and at the same time leave a positive impact on the destinations and its people.”

Tofino's Amazon Kayaking trip combines unprecedented accessibility with genuine adventure, giving participants a chance to explore new and fascinating aspects of this natural world everyday. Descend into the tranquil Indillana River, where the “white” water from the Andes meets the “black” water of the jungle. Take an early-morning paddle through gentle creeks to see capybara and three-toed sloths along the banks. Hike the Canopy Trail to the walkway where the treetops are alive with Capuchin monkeys and vibrantly colored tropical birds. Float with pink freshwater dolphins then walk the Chaguamango Trail and learn about medicinal, ornamental and victual uses for neo-tropical plants. Pay a visit to an Amazonian Kickwa family, tour their gardens and experience the Kichwa tradition of hospitality while learning about their culture. Enjoy night walks and nighttime canoe rides to look for nocturnal species like black caimans and boas by spotlight. Don’t forget to make time to admire the blaze of stars in the equatorial night sky while listening to an unforgettable chorus of tree frogs.

National Geographic Traveler magazine uncovers the best tours and outfitters for travelers as part of the magazine’s mission “to propel readers out of their armchairs and into the field.” National Geographic Traveler has the largest audience of any travel magazine, with more than 8.5 million readers.

The May issue arrives in homes and on the website April 9th. The print issue will hit newsstands April 21st and the tablet issue will be available starting April 29th.
