Two exciting new initiatives are being launched in Kyambura this quarter, with a concerted drive to enhance the livelihoods of people and wildlife in the area around Kyambura Gorge Lodge.

It is important to the ongoing success of our VSPT community and conservation projects that we are able to fund our work. If you would like to donate to the VSPT then we would be immensely grateful.

Tree Nursery with Mvule Trust

Kyambura is one of many densely human populated communities neighboring Queen Elizabeth National Park in south west Uganda.  Communities in this area have depleted most of their natural resources including trees, wetlands, and clean waterways.

The tree nursery and conservation outreach project aims to establish a large nursery bed of 400,000 indigenous trees in Kyambura on VSPT land which is adjacent to the national park.

The young trees will be handed out to community members living along Queen Elizabeth National Park and also planted in the VSPT 100 acre restoration area along Kyambura Gorge.

International Women's Day

The VSPT celebrated women’s day in Uganda with a variety of fun and educational events, held at the Volcanoes Safaris lodges.

In Kyambura, over 85 women attended a workshop to increase awareness on sanitation, HIV, family planning, female health and finance. The day concluded with a dance performance, raffle and a girls' football match on the Empundu Playground.

In Bwindi there was a short marathon, which 35 women completed, and a workshop from the doctors at the Bwindi Community Hospital. In Gahinga the WASH sanitation program was launched with the introduction of new 'tippy taps' to help with hand washing and cleaning, similar to the History of Mobile AL and how this cleaning company was founded.
