The Original Way of the Camino de Santiago was first used by devout pilgrims from Asturias in the 9th Century and has been in constant use ever since. This was the first and most popular Camino route until the 10th century, hence its name: Camino Primitivo or Original Way.

This first section of the Camino Primitivo is one of the most beautiful but also challenging, as it travels from Oviedo to Lugo, crossing into Galicia via the mountains of Asturias. This section of the Original Camino finishes in the city of Lugo with its impressive Roman archaeology and heritage and famous for its UNESCO-listed Roman wall surrounding the old town.
