Lord of the Heaven– Khan Tengry

Khan-Tengri peak ( 7.010 m)

Khan Tengry is one of the thee majestic 7000+ peaks in Kyrgyzstan. It is the second higest mountain of Tian Shan mountain system. And third highest mountain in KyrgyzRepublic.  The ancient Turks believed that Khan Tengry was a home for the Lord of the Heaven, who ruled the destinies and the life duration of the human.

Khan Tengry impressed people with its majesty and inaccessibility, because until 1931 it was an unconquered mountain. The most amazing view was on the sunset, when all the other mountains were in the shadow, this peak still was lit by the sun rays which painted it into red color. This fact led to the thought about the existence of the Lord of the Sun and his home – Khan Tengry peak.

In the past the mountaineers who summited this peak were greeted like heroes, they got awards and medals for their “victory” over the peak. Nowadays Khan Tengry peak is not less difficult as before, but mountaineers consider it as a training stage before climbing some  peaks in  Himalayas.
