A Bird's Eye View - The Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk in Rwanda

The canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest, a vast central African rainforest located in southern Rwanda, is one of East Africa's best kept adventure travels secrets. Since 2010, it has been drawing those 'in the know' to explore this incredibly biodiverse area of Rwanda. It is the first, and to date, only attraction of its kind in all of East Africa.

The hanging platform is suspended high above the forest - the walkway is 90 meters long and 50 meters above ground level - over a deep valley that stretches out across the massive forest. Giving visitors a bird's eye view of the treetops, it offers a chance for an alternative adventure activity in between tracking chimpanzees, hiking along forest trails filled with a dazzling array of orchids, birds and butterflies and various primates (Nyungwe is home to 13 rare species of monkey and ape).

Visiting the canopy walk can easily be incorporated into a Rwanda adventure safari. Check out our new Highlights of Rwanda tour for more information.
