The world’s leading purveyor of expedition cruising is expanding the frontiers of small ship adventure travel with new-for-2018 itineraries that transport guests beyond the blue horizon.

AdventureSmith Explorations’ off-the-beaten-path programs stretching to faraway lands include an Indonesian archipelago, Tasmania, frozen landscapes in Patagonia and Canada’s High Arctic, and a three-state/three-river adventure in the Pacific Northwest.

Sailing Indonesia: Jewels of Raja Ampat is a 10-day cruise venturing farther off of AdentureSmith’s map to the West Papua, Indonesia, province of Raja Ampat. Also known as the Four Kings, this Indonesian archipelago comprises over 1,500 small islands and is famed for its beaches and coral reef. Expedition cruises here are aboard the traditional sailing vessels 24-guest Ombak Putih and 14-guest Katharina. Scheduled departures from Sorong, Indonesia, are in December 2017 and January 2018 as well as December 2018 and January 2019. The per person double rates is from $4,950.

Pristine Tasmania is an 8-day itinerary exploring the southern shorelines of the Australian island of Tasmania, a first for AdventureSmith. On route for the 72-guest Coral Discoverer are Tasman National Park and Maria Island National Park, and if conditions allow, two days spent exploring the untouched Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area at Port Davey. This region, normally only accessible by week-long hike or light aircraft, is one of the most pristine and beautiful landscapes on Earth. Departures from Hobart, Tasmania, are scheduled January, February and March of 2018 and 2019. The per person double rate is from $3,950.

Patagonian Explorerover five days sails AdventureSmith’s new cruise route from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Punta Arenas, Chile, that offers some of the planet’s most remote icescapes and wildlife. A highlight is visiting the huge and rarely visited Cóndor Glacier in Agostini Sound. The brand-new vessel 210-guest Ventus Australis will be the only ship in the world visiting the Cóndor Glacier regularly, with sailings on this newly devised route beginning Jan. 6, 2018. Her sister ship Stella Australis joins to sail the route in October 2018. Departures are in January, February, March, September, October, November and December of 2018 and January, February, March and April of 2019. The per person double rate is from $1,440.

Northwest Passage is a 17-day, one-of-a-kind journey in Canada’s High Arctic, marking AdventureSmith’s first foray into this region by small ship. Its other Arctic itineraries visit Kangerlussuaq (also on this itinerary) or otherwise hug Greenland’s eastern and western shorelines, but Northwest Passage extends its reach as far as Resolute in Nunavut, Canada. The actual Northwest Passage is an historic sea route that has become accessible to passenger ships in recent years as Earth’s climate and ice pack have shifted. Aboard the 132-guest Ocean Adventurer, guests will hike and Zodiac through spectacular landscapes that played an important role in the passage’s discovery. Ottawa, Canada, is the gateway city. Departures in 2018 are Aug. 26-Sept. 11 and Sept. 9-Sept. 25. The per person double rate is from $9,695.

Rivers of Adventure spends nine days in the close-to-home Pacific Northwest, embarking from either Portland, OR, or Lewiston, ID, on the 88-guest S.S. Legacy, a ship equipped for adventures (paddle boards, kayaks and skiffs) along its route on the Columbia River for a play date with Class II and III rapids on the Deschutes River. Guests catch their breath during wine tastings at Washington vineyards before slipping onto Idaho’s Snake River for introductions to Hells Canyon and the legacies of Lewis & Clark, the Nez Perce, and early pioneers. Guests boarding in Portland disembark in Lewiston, ID, for a charter flight back to Portland (guests who board in Lewiston also receive a charter flight from Portland at the start). Departures are scheduled in August, September and October 2018 and in September, October and November 2019. The per person double rate is from $4,995.
