Chile’s coastline will take your breath away with its spectacular views of crashing waves, jagged landscapes, and smooth white sand beaches. Anchored by the affluent resort city Viña del Mar and the unmistakeable historic port of Valparaiso – declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural and cultural importance – the coast is also home to a number of charming beach towns. One destination that annot be missed is Isla Negra. Pablo Neruda’s former home looks out to sea and provides a snapshot into the life and mind of Chile’s most beloved poet. All along the coast, through its rolling hills, beautiful homes and elegant hotels invite you to visit and explore, while the fresh seafood and delicious dishes at the local restaurants convince you to stay a while longer.

Viña Del Mar: Colonial city turned resort town, Viña del Mar is a main fixture of Chile's coast. Known today as the "Garden City" for its lush gardens and palm-lined boulevards, a major attraction is its “Reloj de Flores” (flower clock) and, of course, its inviting beaches.

Valparaiso: One of the first Chilean cities founded by the Spanish, Valparaíso was South America’s most important port for hundreds of years, until the inauguration of the Panama Canal. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003 for its architectural and cultural significance, “Valpo”  is one of Chile’s most interesting cities. With bohemian cafes, artists’ workshops, boutique hotels, and colorful homes spread across its dozens of hills, you’re sure to find a suprise at every turn of the winding streets.

Unique Cool-Climate Wines: In the San Antonio Valley, fresh sea breezes dance through vineyards spread across rolling hills. Thanks to a few bold and innovative winemakers with a vision, the valley that many once thought would never bear worthwhile fruit is now producing award-winning vines. This excellent terroir is increasingly capturing attention around the world for its excellent expressions of cool-loving grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. This valley is accessable from Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, as well as from the Capital, Santiago, making it a great stop for anyone exploring the coast.

Neruda's Muse: Although Chile's beloved poet, Pablo Neruda, had houses across the country, his coastal home was by far his favorite getaway. Isla Negra captures the romance and mysticism of Neruda's poetry, especially as its views often served as the poet's muse. Visitors can tour the house, now converted into a museum, and see first hand what inspired the Noble Prize winner. After exploring the home, visitors can also eat at local spot nearby to taste the fresh seafood that kept Neruda returning to this coastal region, including the Caldillo de congrio (conger eel soup) to which he dedicated an ode.
