89 racers challenged themselves on the beautiful 50km and 100km trail run on 4th March through Hajar Mountain passes, along jeep tracks, through boulder ravines and over the spectacular sand dunes of Ras Al Khaimah. It was a tough challenge starting at 6am with a 24hr overall cut off time.

Sponsored by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, the race started at a remote Wadi location near Jebel Jais and finished near Al Ghail. Competitors made their way across various terrains which offered beautiful views of Ras Al Khaimah and the Arabian Sea. Participants spanned from trail running enthusiasts and beginners to advanced, competitive runners.

Haitham Mattar, CEO, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority said: “We were delighted to host the Urban-Ultra Hajar 50 &100 for a second consecutive year. The race adds a great dimension to the overall Urban-Ultra race series in the lead up to the X-Tri. We had the pleasure of hosting 89 international and regional participants this year with their friends and families. Holding such events in our emirate is in line with our vision of positioning Ras Al Khaimah as a natural choice for adventure sports amidst RAK’s natural beauty – these events are not only for participants to enjoy but also great spectator sports.”

Participants of the event also took the time to comment. One participant said: “[There was] seamless organisation from start to finish, not to mention an unbelievably beautiful and physically challenging course! I can't wait to do another Urban Ultra event!”

Ras Al Khaimah is set to host even more challenging events in the coming months offering competitors the chance to race through its sand dunes, mountains and rocky terrain. Upcoming events include the North Face Rock Run (1st April). To register, please visit www.urbanultra.com
