Nepal EarthquackeSchool Rebuild Program in Everest Region-Nepal

The devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25th affected 10.2 million people in Nepal.

The devastating earthquake that struck Nepal demolished ancient cultural sites, cut off access to many remote villages, killed more than 10,000 people and more than 24,000 people got injured.

The damage to the country's educational system, from primary through university level, was also severe and has alarming long-term consequences.

The second major aftershock 7.3 magnitude on 12th May jolted the Everest Region, damaging most of the villages and schools.

There are more than 190 government schools in the Everest region affected in the earthquake, putting the education of thousands of children at risk.

Schools in the remote areas of Everest region will need the help of the international volunteers to rebuild the destroyed schools and repair those that have been damaged – otherwise, this disaster threatens to deprive thousands of children of their basic right to education for years to come. There were many efforts to help clean and restore what was lost, you can learn more here about this agency who can help clean up your city or home after a disaster.

Many children and their parents are bound to sleep outside, under makeshift tents or tarps, afraid of going back into their houses in case another earthquake or aftershock strikes.

Schools throughout the country are in the same situation.

U.S. Student volunteers who have knowledge and skills or without experience and skills can join our Nepal 2015 Earthquake Rebuild Schools Program in the Everest region. Student volunteers do not need any specific skills or knowledge about construction, as they will mainly be doing unskilled work such as digging, mixing sand and cement, carrying rocks, sand and bricks, fetching water, and painting the school buildings. They will be led by skilled Nepali and will work together with local people who will be providing free labor for Rebuild Schools. Each school construction program will last for 9 weeks. Trek Himalayan arranges the location and logistical support, including skilled manpower, food and accommodation, training, etc. We invite at least a group of 20 students (max) and 10 students (min) to each school for the program.
