SpiceRoads Cycle Tours introduces Angkor Family Explorer, a 5-day cycling adventure around the Angkor temples of Bayon and Ta Prohm along with plenty of fun activities to strengthen the family bond. Activities include pottery, watching the local acrobats perform and kayaking to explore a local floating village.

This tour was developed to cater for the growing demand for active holidays for families. Our Thailand family tours have been very popular, but we wanted to provide more choice. Angkor was chosen as it is a great place to take children: the area is flat and there is lots to see, plenty to do and masses to learn,” says Struan Robertson, CEO SpiceRoads Cycle Tours.

What to expect

The tour is based in Siem Reap, the “Great Gate to Angkor”. After checking in at the hotel, sampling the Khmer cuisine the group visits Phare, a non-profit school for the arts where students use their amazing acrobatic skills to act out Cambodian folklore. The following day it's onto the bikes for a visit to Ta Prohm – the famous setting of the film Tomb Raider followed by a Khmer class to learn a few words before heading by tuk-tuk to test out bargaining skills at the local market. Over the course of this 5-day adventure, there is a visit to the iconic Angkor Wat, a paddle in kayaks to a floating village on the placid Tonle Lake and lots more fun, educational activities.

Tour highlights

  • Visiting the one and only Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world
  • Learning a smattering of the Khmer language and tasting various Khmer foods in the markets
  • Getting a little bit muddy crafting pottery
  • Exploring the jungle by foot and kayaking on Tonle Sap Lake
