The Atlantic Route in Northern Portugal

Story by Portugal Green Walks

Share

From Porto to Caminha, the Atlantic route in northern Portual follows boardwalks and back roads alongside the wide sandy beaches and flowered sand dunes of the northern Portuguese coastline.

Pass through the seaside towns of Povoa da Varzim, Esposende and Vila Praia da Âncora, all of which offer great seafood, especially octopus. Delve into the architecture and culture of Viana do Castelo and visit the hilltop Santa Luzia basilica.

The last town in Portugal is Caminha, strategically located at the mouth of the River Minho, the border with Spain.
