In Kenya, 52% of all wage earners are women.  However in many circumstances the ability of women to earn a reliable and regular source of income is difficult.   One Horizon is involved in providing vocational and lifestyle training that lasts 18 months and supports women during the training process.  And that includes providing free child care, and a monthly stipend to cover rent and food.  And when they emerge from the training, support continues as they set up their small businesses.  The program has been an unbelievable success.  Support through the process is crucial to enable the women to concentrate on attaining needed skills and that's where travelers have been the foundation of the program.  Fees from travelers go towards ensuring that the women can successfully participate and ultimately keep their family unit intact.
