About Us

Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda is a grassroots conservation and community development organization founded by residents of the Sierra Gorda region in the Mexican state of Querétaro. For 30 years, they have dedicated themselves to the protection of biodiversity and sustainable economic development of the region, and, in pursuing these goals, they have built partnerships between local communities, government, and international institutions and created innovative conservation solutions.

Their goal is to build a sustainable culture with new civic values, diversifying opportunities through ecosystem services and developing new skills to build an economy for conservation. They organize, train, and provide support for community groups to adopt best practices and strengthen social entrepreneurship. The direct beneficiaries of their projects are the residents and ecosystems of the Sierra Gordaand surrounding areas, but, through our innovations in conservation and strategies aimed at mitigating global climate change, they  are ensuring that the whole world benefits from their work.
