Natta looks at us with idle curiosity on a lazy Sunday morning. This magnificent male, so named for his penchant for catching land monitors by their tail, (“Natta” Sinhalese word for “Tail”) is quite the celebrity according to our Mahoora Wilpattu naturalists who encountered him first in 2010. After losing a territorial encounter with another, Natta disappeared for a few months and was assumed deceased until a jeep driver spotted him in another part of the park, alive, well and now in charge of his own little kingdom.

You may get the chance to run across him when you visit the park with us and take away fond memories of spending some time with a bona fide superstar.
