Infographic Special Wildlife Sightings in Southern Africa During October

October is the end of the dry season in Southern Africa and is one of the most popular and productive game viewing months across Southern Africa. In Botswana, for example, the dry October landscape makes finding honey badgers much easier. In South Africa, it’s calving season for southern right whales and you can watch their water aerobics from land at Hermanus. In Zimbabwe, water holes in Hwange National Park have become scarce, meaning the remaining locations are overrun with prey and predators alike. On the Busanga Plains in the northern section of Kafue National Park in Zambia, the lions begin climbing trees more frequently to escape the mid-day heat and enjoy cooler breezes; and in Namibia, the desert-adapted lions and other species gather along the dry river beds, especially in the Hoanib River Valley, looking for food and water.
